I recently saw the pony in the video, who has laminitis, standing in water eating his feed. Luckily, I have never had to deal with laminitis so I asked the owner about the water tray. Apparently, the symptoms and possibly the inflammation of laminitis can be relieved by standing in a stream. Since there is no stream near the yard the water tray is the next best option. Giving feed, which is suitable for a laminitic pony, encourages the pony to stand in the water tray for a period of time to allow the water to relieve the symptoms.
